Connect All Your Sentences

Earlier in the book, I mentioned how transitions at the beginning of sentences worked as a strong way to include plot without bogging down the synopsis. That's just one use of these helpful tools within your blurbs. Transitioning from one sentence to the next is a prime way to keep momentum strong within your piece. Transition phrases often start with words like “when,” “after,” “as,” “before,” “with,” and a series of others. If your description sounds clunky, then you probably need to use more transitional phrases between your sentences to keep things going. I think it's a good rule of thumb to use one of these transitions at least once in every three sentences of your synopsis. Typically, that sentence would be the middle of the three.
